Driving the packaging revolution: Best practices & mandatory REUSE in the PPWR

CEGROBB is proud to be partner of the 9th ReUse Conference held in Brussels, with this years main topic: 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 & 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗘𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗣𝗪𝗥

Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

The 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (PPWR) will set the regulative basis for the packaging sector for the next 20 years.
The draft regulation presented by the EU-Commission contains – for the first time – 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗘𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

This is a regulatory milestone for the REUSE sector and is a decisive step towards a true Circular Economy in the packaging industry, as the keynote speakers 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗶 (Head of Unit DG Environment) and 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗸𝗲 (Environmental Minister Germany) stated.

Exciting presentations from organizations such as Deutsche Umwelthilfe, New ERA – New European Reuse Alliance and Reusable Packaging Europe (RPE) provided a diverse range of insights into positions on PPWR.
In a touching appeal, Nurul Fitra of Jikalahari addressed the audience to show the destructive impact single-use paper-based packaging has on forests in Riau, Indonesia.

Organizations such as Genossenschaft Deutscher Brunnen eG (GDB), STIFTUNG INITIATIVE MEHRWEG and sykell – Einfach Mehrweg showed how successful reuse systems already exist today (and in some cases have existed for over 120 years).

Best practices in pool management and cleaning are enablers for reuse

Last but not least, two companies were recognized for their efforts in ReUse and Refill.

Michel Haelterman, President of CEGROBB, handed the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 to MMP | Mach Mehrweg Pool e.V., for operating an exemplary refillable pool system management in the food sector of Germany.

The 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 went to Uzaje for its innovative and energy-efficient cleaning technology for reusable packaging.

We are looking back on a very interesting and insightful event and are proud to support our Members and Industry Partners pushing ReUse and the finalization and implementation of PPWR.

Special thanks to the Deutsche Umwelthilfe for organizing this event and the Cooperation with Reloop and Private Brauereien Deutschland E.V.
